(AP) ? A Hong Kong reporter briefly threw Chinese President Hu Jintao's tightly scripted visit to the semiautonomous city off course Saturday by asking about the 1989 military crackdown on protesters in Tiananmen Square.

The reporter for the Apple Daily newspaper said he was detained for about 15 minutes after the incident by three to four security officers, who told him he was too noisy and had broken rules. Other reporters also shouted questions to Hu, but they weren't detained.

Hu was touring a new cruise ship terminal when the reporter shouted out a question to him from behind a security cordon.

"President Hu, have you heard that Hong Kong people hope to reverse the verdict of June 4?" the reporter, Hon Yiu-ting, asked. "Have you heard?"

Many in Hong Kong have long called for Beijing to overturn its condemnation of the weekslong 1989 pro-democracy protests that the military crushed on the night of June 3-4, killing hundreds, possibly thousands. On mainland China, dissidents, intellectuals, relatives of the victims and even ordinary citizens also have called for a reassessment of the incident, though their voices are usually muffed because of government censorship.

Hu did not respond to the reporter's question and it's not clear whether he even heard it. The encounter was shown on local television.

Saturday's incident was one small flaw in a carefully orchestrated visit by Hu that underscores the widening tensions between Hong Kong and its mainland rulers 15 years after the end of British rule. Hu is on a three-day visit to the southern Chinese financial hub to mark the handover's anniversary on Sunday.

While the visit is aimed at emphasizing strengthening ties and coincides with a raft of measures to boost Hong Kong's economy with the mainland's help, stark differences remain. Hong Kongers have grown increasingly uneasy about life under Beijing's rule and the mainland's growing influence on the territory.

A group of pro-democracy protesters scuffled with police on Saturday, with the two sides pushing and shoving on metal crowd-control barricades outside the hotel and conference center where Hu was scheduled to attend a concert. Police used pepper spray on the demonstrators, who had been corralled into a small protest zone across the street from the site. The protesters were far outnumbered by hundreds of police ringing the venue.

"We want Hu Jintao hear from us," said Lee Cheuk-yan, a pro-democracy lawmaker who helped organize the protest. The group wanted to give Hu a letter outlining their concerns about the death of Li Wangyang, a labor activist released from a Chinese prison last year whose death in June was initially labeled a suicide. Activists said years of beatings and mistreatment had taken such a toll on his body that he would not have been able to kill himself that way.

"We are demanding to investigate the truth behind his death and release his family. People in Hong Kong are very angry," said Lee.

Under Hong Kong's mini-constitution, the city is guaranteed until 2047 a high degree of autonomy and Western-style civil liberties not seen on the mainland, such as freedom of speech.

Hu's visit is also intended as a sign of support for Hong Kong's incoming leader, known as the chief executive. Pro-democracy protesters are planning to rally again Sunday outside the exhibition center, where Hu will oversee Leung Chun-ying's inauguration, but heavy security means it's unlikely he'll see them.

Noble: Israel's Energy Needs Will Spur Growth

When Dan Meridor, the Deputy Prime Minister of Israel expressed cautious optimism over Israeli-Egyptian relationships, one cannot help but feel skeptical about the way things are turning out in Egypt. The country elected Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi as the President of Egypt and politicians there have asserted that peace treaties between Israel and Egypt will continue to hold good, and that business shall remain as usual. This statement must be ingested with a pinch of skepticism too, as Egypt had terminated a natural gas deal, which sent gas to Israel from Sinai Peninsula over a pipeline. Egypt had claimed that it was a business decision and had nothing to do with politics or internal matters.

When it comes to countries that have politicians who are swayed by fundamentalism, one cannot really take their words literally. As evidenced earlier, most fundamental politicians mix religion with business and bring in strange policies that not only hurt economic cooperation, but also open possibilities of military interventions. With that in mind, we must look at the change of power in Egypt with extreme skepticism and wariness. Ideally, Israel must stop depending on Egypt for its fuel needs and must become self dependent or try and get gas from secure neighbors who are friendlier towards Israel, for instance Cyprus.

The Mari-B well off Israel's Mediterranean coast has remained one of the most important sources of natural gas, but it is almost depleted now. When Noble Energy (NBL) and its partners announced that they began laying pipelines connecting the Noa and Pinnacles wells to Mari-B, we could assume that the future of Israel in terms of its fuel needs are not going to be as bad as we imagined. In fact, Noble mentioned that natural gas from the Noa field has begun to flow towards Israel and it will help Tel Aviv to prevent electricity and fuel shortages, especially after Egypt announced its decision to cut natural gas supplies. Israel has been importing low-quality diesel and fuel oil from a host of countries and its electricity rates have increased drastically.

With the nuclear threat from Iran looming, Israel certainly does not need another worry hanging heavy over its shoulders. Thanks to Noble Energy, Israel will be able to put its natural gas worries to rest at least for a while till a new source can be found. The Tamar field, with its estimated 9.7 trillion cubic meters of gas, will be operational only by 2013, and Noa's supply is extremely crucial to Israel. Noble owns 47.059% of Noa, while its partners Delek Drilling and Avner Oil Exploration hold the rest.

Noble has a very important role to play in Israel's fuel needs and the company should make every possible attempt to make sure that Israel has enough gas and oil supplies to meet its fuel requirements. When Israel's fuel demands and requirements are met, the country will be able to focus on its more important issues like Iran, security and conflict resolution.

Noble is not only active in Mediterranean Sea, but also in West Africa, and elsewhere in the African continent. Noble started exploratory activities way back in the 1990s in Equatorial Guinea. With such established natural gas activities, Noble will surely be able to compete with its rivals successfully. Noble also has a few advantages over its competitors in terms of its monopoly over natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean. For instance, Occidental Petroleum (OXY) is focused more on liquids than on natural gas, which makes it difficult for Oxy to compete with Noble in Israeli market.

On the other hand, Anadarko (APC) did slightly better than Noble, as its first quarter 2012 gas sales was around 43%. However, Anadarko's monopoly is in Mozambique than in Israel, and Noble will be able to secure its position in Israel no matter what other companies are up to. Anadarko has recently been extremely active in Mozambique and has announced major projects in that Southern African country.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) is still wrangling with Iraqi central government in order to protect its contracts with the Kurdistan Regional Government and that is going to take some time. Moreover, the fact that Iraqis are getting too close for comfort with Iran is something that the bigwigs at Exxon Mobil need to be wary about.

Noble could be a very good investment option at the moment, especially as the oil and natural gas prices are falling at the moment. The price of oil and natural gas will eventually rise, helping investors to savor the fruits of Noble's fortune. Noble has projected an annual increase in cash flow of 22%, but positive cash flow will be noticed only by 2016, which is slightly worrying news for long-term investors. Thanks to Noble's available liquidity, decrease in cash flow in the next couple of years will be met successfully. Only Apache (APA) may have better finances, if we had to compare natural gas stocks. However, investors should bear in mind that Noble has a better and more competitive undervaluation than Apache.

If Israel should feel secure about its energy requirements, it must stop depending on hostile nations for its natural gas requirements. It is very important for Jerusalem to strike deals with companies like Noble who have exploratory activities in the vicinity. Israel not only faces adversities in Egypt, but also in Turkey. Turkey has long asserted that it will not let anyone meddle with the disputed territory of Cyprus, though the international community does not recognize its demands. Israel must walk a tight rope and make sure that it is not losing out on lucrative deals with gas companies like Noble, and it should avoid importing low quality fuel from Egypt and other hostile nations.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.

Alaska wreckage from deadly 1952 military plane crash

Dod-Cpt. Jamie D. Dobson / U.S. Army via Reuters

A specialized eight-person recovery team, with team members from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and Northern Warefare Training Center, searches for aircraft wreckage, remains, or other personal affects while conducting recovery operations on Knik Glacier on June 20.

By Chris Klint, Channel 2/KTUU.com, and msnbc.com staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska ? The wreckage of a military plane found near Knik Glacier?earlier this month has been identified as a Korean War-era Air Force cargo plane that crashed in the 1950s, killing all 52 people on board, NBC?station KTUU?of Anchorage reported Wednesday.

The identification brings closure to victims' families after nearly 60 years, KTUU said.

Joint POW-MIA Accounting Command spokesperson Capt. Jamie Dobson said?the wreckage,?discovered June 10 on Colony Glacier, about 45 miles east of Anchorage,?by a UH-60 Blackhawk crew with the Alaska Army National Guard-- is that of a Douglas C-124A Globemaster II that crashed?on Nov. 22, 1952.

See the original story at NBC station KTUU

While evidence collected by the eight-man team?is en route to JPAC?s Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii for further analysis, Dobson told KTUU?the plane was identifiable by materials found at the scene.

"Some of the evidence has already been positively correlated with this crash," Dobson told KTUU.

Harsh weather prevented a recovery at the time and later searchers could not locate it.

U.S. Air Force via AP, file

An undated photo of a C-124A Globemaster cargo aircraft similar to the plane that went down on the Colony Glacier in Alaska in 1952, killing all 52 people on board.

The Globemaster II entered Air Force service in 1950 as the world?s largest transport plane. Its forward loading ramp and aft cargo elevator, as well as its ability to carry 68,500 pounds of cargo or 200 passengers on two decks of seating, made it the Air Force's primary heavy-lift transport into the early 1960s, KTUU reported.

The four-propeller transport was eventually replaced by the C-141 Starlifter jet, but its name lives on in Alaska skies with the C-17 Globemaster III, operated by the 517th Airlift Squadron at Anchorage?s Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

Crash researcher Tonja Anderson, whose grandfather Airman Isaac Anderson died in the crash, told KTUU the cargo plane was on a flight from McChord Air Force Base in Washington to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage when it crashed near the 8,000-foot level of Mount Gannett.

Blog Archive ? For Teens ? Making Healthy Friends

When you are younger, friends help you improve your social and conflict resolution skills. As you get older friendships become even more important. The older you get the more friends can become like a second family. Friends provide fun, excitement, and companionship. Friends can give advice and help you talk through problems as well as provide a sense of stability in your life if you?re going through a time of stress or transition.

Making Friends:

When it comes to making friends it?s important to find the people who are you like you in terms of what you like to do and how you feel about things. Friends with similar interests and values give you common ground and things to talk about and do together.

Quick Tips for making friends:

  • Introduce yourself to people in your classes.
  • Be friendly. When you are approachable and nice, more people will want to be around and talk to you.
  • Don?t make fun of people. If you put other people down, potential friends may shy away from you because they don?t want to risk being put down as well.
  • Join activities. Activities are a great way to meet people with similar interests and give you something to bond over right away!

Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships

Friends are great but sometimes the relationships you have with some friends may not be the best for you. Friends should be there for you to relate to and to help you out, not to make you uncomfortable or pressure you to do things you don?t like. Sometimes even good friends may start to do things you don?t agree with (smoking, partying, stealing, etc.) and you will have to judge for yourself how much time you want to spend with them. Turning away from old friends can be hard but sometimes it?s worth it in the long run.

What makes a healthy Friendship?

  • Mutual Respect. Friends shouldn?t pressure you to do things that you don?t want to do. You always have the right to say ?no? and good friends will respect that. They should also respect your opinion and should not make you feel bad for how you think or feel about a subject.
  • Honesty and Trust. Friends should be able to tell each other things without worrying if their secrets will get out. Friends should also be able to tell the truth to each other. If you find a friend is telling your secrets to other or lying a lot, it may be time to reevaluate if the person is being a real friend or not.
  • Support. Friends should be there through good times and bad. They should encourage and celebrate with you when things go right and give you a shoulder to cry on when life takes a downturn.
  • Fairness and Equality. Healthy relationships need to have some give and take. You should be doing favors for each other and each get a say in choosing what to do when you hang out. If you find that your relationships is becoming one sided or controlling try talking to your friend about it. They may be unaware of how they are acting. Or if you?re the one acting this way, try to figure out why that is and make an effort to balance it out.
  • Good Communication. Friendships like any good relationship need healthy communication. Conflicts should be resolved when they arise in a calm, respectful manner. You should be able to listen and talk to each other without fear of being judged.
  • Cooperation. Being able to work together and take turns is important for good relationships.

A Spokane Personal Injury Law Firm Aids Locals With Legal Advice ...

Posted by Clayton Lafromboise on June 26, 2012 in Military | ?

Accidents where people get hurt are an everyday occurrence. Sometimes these accidents are the result of a person doing something foolish and they hurt themselves, but other times they result from the actions of another person that cause someone else to be injured. In these times, the one causing the accident may be liable for the medical bills and any financial difficulties an injured person occurs. A Spokane attorney knowledgeable of personal injury law may be helpful in these matters.

Moments like these can bring a range of emotions that a victim has to deal with. One of those emotions revolves around the fear of being destitute and not being able to cover their expenses. This can lead some people to quickly accept a settlement package from an insurance company. One might want to step back and think long and hard about accepting anything before all aspects are considered.

Another thing a person should be aware of is their ability to read the documents clearly. Much of the paperwork can be filled with confusing legalese that one needs training to properly understand. If one has trouble understanding what is written, they might want to consult someone who does understand these things.

There is often an order to reporting requirements and paperwork that should be followed closely. Many governmental agencies have time limits to file a case in court. If one does not file within these time limits, then their case cannot be tried and they will not have any options to recover damages.

Sometimes a person feels that the initial offer they receive from an insurance company is good enough for them and they take it. A problem arises when injuries take time to become completely apparent. One can not go back to seek more money if they find that the offer they accepted was insufficient to address all the problems.

Many people are unfamiliar with the law regarding personal injuries. They may want to seek the advice of a trained and experienced professional who can help them sort through the mess. Hiring a Spokane attorney may be a good first step for people suffering from an injury that was not their fault.

Personal injury victims, you can find a summary of the advantages you get when you hire a Spokane attorney at http://www.nordstromlawfirm.com right now.

A condition that temporarily causes heart failure in people who experience severe stress might actually protect the heart from very high levels of adrenaline, according to a new study published in the journal Circulation. The research provides the first physiological explanation for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also called "broken heart syndrome" because it affects people who suffer severe emotional stress after bereavement, and suggests guidance for treatment.

Around 1-2% of people who are initially suspected of having a heart attack are finally discovered to have this increasingly recognised syndrome.

The Imperial College London study, which simulated the condition in an animal model, suggests that the body changes its response to adrenaline by switching from its usual role in stimulating the heart to reducing its pumping power. Although this results in acute heart failure, most patients make a full recovery within days or weeks.

The researchers propose that the switch in the heart's response to adrenaline might have evolved to protect the heart from being overstimulated by the particularly high doses of adrenaline that the body releases during stress.

Patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, most often older women, experience symptoms that resemble a heart attack, but heart tests reveal no blockage in the coronary arteries; instead the heart has a balloon-like appearance caused by the bottom of the heart not contracting properly. The same condition is sometimes seen in people who are injected with adrenaline to treat severe allergic reactions.

In this new research, the authors simulated the condition by injecting high doses of adrenaline in anaesthetised rats. In these rats, as in Takotsubo patients, heart muscle contraction was suppressed towards the bottom of the heart. The researchers found that these rats were protected from an otherwise fatal overstimulation of the heart, indicating that adrenaline acts through a different pathway from usual, and that this switch protects the heart from toxic levels of adrenaline.

The study also examined drugs that might be useful for treating Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Some beta blockers, used to treat high blood pressure, angina and heart failure, reproduced or enhanced the features of Takotsubo, giving new insights into the protective effects of these drugs. Levosimendan, a different type of drug given in heart failure to stimulate the heart without going through the adrenaline receptor pathways, had a beneficial effect.

"Adrenaline's stimulatory effect on the heart is important for helping us get more oxygen around the body in stressful situations, but it can be damaging if it goes on for too long," said Professor Sian Harding, from the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) at Imperial College London, who led the study. "In patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, adrenaline works in a different way and shuts down the heart instead. This seems to protect the heart from being overstimulated."

Study co-author Dr Alexander Lyon, also from the NHLI at Imperial, and consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital, set up one of the first specialist services in the UK to look after people who have experienced Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. "Currently it is not fully known how to treat these patients," he said. "Insights from this work show that the illness may be protecting them from more serious harm. We've identified a drug treatment that might be helpful, but the most important thing is to recognise the condition, and not to make it worse by giving patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy more adrenaline or adrenaline-like medications."

"At the Royal Brompton Hospital and Imperial College London we are leading a European initiative to bring together experts to understand this recently recognised cardiac syndrome, and we hope the findings from this work will lead to new treatment strategies for these patients during the acute phase of their illness, and to prevent recurrence".

The study was funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the Wellcome Trust, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Dr Shannon Amoils, Research Advisor at the BHF, said:

"This is a fascinating study which presents a possible explanation for the signs of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, a rare condition that's usually preceded by intense emotional or physical stress. Patients usually have symptoms that resemble those of a heart attack but nearly all fully recover after a short time.

"The study also provides new insights into how the heart may protect itself from stress, which opens up exciting avenues of exploration for research. We must remember though that this is a study in rats, and the findings need to be confirmed in people before we can be sure of their relevance to patients."

Mobile App Development for your Cell Phone. | ExpertsArticles.com

It?s amazing what difference cell phones have made in our lives. The lifestyles of younger people have especially changed. Nearly all school children have at some point owned and operated a cell phone. Young people tend to be more inclined to buy new promotional packages. They also tend to be very familiar with the latest applications. As many kids and students don?t have a fixed income they rely on their parents to pay for their mobile bill. It is no surprise that a lot of the marketing of applications is centered on younger people. The video game console industry has also exploded in recent years. As the processing power of mobile phones have improved, it was only a matter of time before the interest for better games and applications would skyrocket.

With the smart phone industry booming, it would appear that there can be described as mobile phone application for nearly everything we all do. Mobile phones were initially only capable of phone conversation and texts. Nowadays most phones can handle much more, including sending multimedia messages and accessing the internet. A lot of the modern applications happen to be made possible with the developments in certain areas of mobile phone technology like 3G, 4G, Wap, Wifi and GPRS. 3G has made it easy to access the web from virtually anywhere in the world. In certain countries it?s also still less expensive than fixed line broadband.

In a recent consumer survey it was interesting to note what types of applications are growing in popularity.
The majority of cell phone users within the first world countries, use cell phone applications for communication, entertainment and emergency assistance. Communication applications includes texts and chats.

There are however users who have a higher mobile expenditure, who use transaction orientated, location orientated and content delivery applications. Content delivery includes internet search applications, e-mails and updates. Transaction based applications allows the users to do things like online banking, purchasing and booking. Location based application allows the user to receive shopping offers and local advertisements. These users also have a much wider selection of applications from which to choose.

Anybody who is a pre-paid user will unfortunately have limitations within the applications they are able to utilise. Pre-paying clients will generally use their cell phones for mainly communication and personal enjoyment.

It?s pretty evident that the Development For Mobile Application Market is probably the most lucrative on the planet. For more information on Mobile App Development, visit www.simplikate.com. We can custom build apps for IPhone, Blackberry,Android and many others.

Really, Rielle?

I guess it?s not surprising that Hunter also seeks revenge against Andrew Young, the Edwards stalwart who initially said he was Quinn?s father. She insinuates that Young took for himself the money donated by two wealthy Edwards friends to pay Hunter?s expenses while he and his wife, Cheri, lived with her to cover up the affair. These gifts, which totaled about $900,000, were at the center of the Edwards trial this past spring. The jury found him not guilty of one count of campaign finance violations and hung on the others. Hunter claims that she spent only between $150,000 and $180,000?she can?t figure out the exact amount because of ?Cheri?s love for Target.? Whatever the truth, the score-settling is shrill.

Perks Per Pay ? Inspired Employee Benefits ... - Customer Support

Employee BenefitsSome of the best companies to work for offer their employees more than just 100 percent health care, shared work programs, onsite childcare, and paid sabbaticals. Google?s sweet perks include onsite haircuts and eyebrow shaping; Wegmans gives away coupons every Christmas, and Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts lets six-month to one year employees stay at any location for three full nights. But you needn?t employ thousands of people or produce multi-million dollar revenues to provide the ideal employee benefits to reward and engage your workforce.

Employee satisfaction hinges on a number of factors so it isn?t just about matching pay for performance and skill sets. Workers consider cash compensation along with leadership driven by principles and dependability, the company?s future direction, work challenges, and extraordinary perks as their basis for a truly rewarding job. A company that suffers from a high incidence of employee turnover may be lacking in one or two of those considerations. If the problem lies with your company?s financial capacity to provide such perks, you can still give an employee benefits program that doesn?t create a significant hole in your business costs.

You can sign up with a company that offers easy-to-implement yet innovative rewards programs to allow you to introduce work benefits without spending too much. The ideal rewards program company will provide sizeable discounts on premier products and services around Australia. Don?t just give your workforce 20 to 30 percent discounts from travel agencies or tech shops. Most of the time, the simplest of pleasures?in significant amounts?can provide the best results.

Keeping your employees happy can be as simple as helping them meet their basic needs. For instance, your benefits program could award high-performing employees with big discount cards to Coles for their groceries or weekly movie vouchers for their family?s entertainment needs (with the escalating cost of movie tickets, this will certainly be appreciated). You might even make an effort to find out what a majority of your best employees actually enjoy doing on their time off from work and use those to convey your appreciation for their efforts and achievements.

Your benefits program will create better impact if it?s applicable to all employees and not just the consistent top performers. Using benefits as merely a reward system isn?t maximising their capabilities, and it can even fuel the loss of confidence in some of your workers. By offering the same privileges to all your employees?whether they are your top sales person or not?you enable and motivate your workforce to produce better results.

It seems, as studies have confirmed, that productivity and profitability aren?t dependent solely on the knowledge and skills of your workforce. Gallup?s most recent research indicates that your employees? feelings are directly related to corporate outcomes. In the U.S., an estimated $300 billion in lost revenue has been attributed to disengaged employees.

Employee rewards that create a significant impact on the daily life of your workers are an excellent way to engage them. When you?ve got more employees smiling as they do their work, you?ll inevitably see positive results when your quarterly profits report comes in.

Lil Scrappy And Stevie J's 'Love & Hip-Hop' Fight 'A Real Situation'

Scrappy tells 'RapFix Live' about the drama, denying rumors the show is scripted.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Lil Scrappy
Photo:

You can expect the female cast of"Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" to kick up some dust this season, but the guys get into their fair share of drama as well. A preview trailer for the rest of the upcoming season shows Lil Scrappy and record producer Stevie J. getting into a heated argument. Of course the tease is cut so we don't see much of the action, but the clip does show an agitated Scrap punching a wall after he and Stevie go nose-to-nose.

"It was a situation; it was a real situation," Scrap said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday.

According to Scrappy, the argument began after Stevie disrespected recurring castmember Erica, Scrappy's child's mother. The ATL MC feels that if Stevie had a problem with Erica, he should've bypassed her and addressed Scrappy instead. "Like I told him, you can walk off, you don't gotta disrespect no female," he said. "If you really wanna do something, ask her where her man at and tell him you wanna throw hands, you wanna take the fade, and I would've been happy to do that." Though Stevie and Scrappy are accomplished musicians and both now reside in the same city, Scrap says prior to the show neither he nor Erica had a personal connection to the multiplatinum producer, who has done work for the likes of Diddy, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey. "He didn't even ask — he didn't know who she was. All he knew is she was a part of the situation and he wanted to pop off," Scrappy said.

The "Money in the Bank" MC wouldn't give away the details of the fisticuffs, but he did shoot down whispers that he, his mother and his child's mother were following a script. "I don't know about the whole show and how [Stevie J.] do his end. I know my team Scrappy — we real on that side," he said.

Do you believe that "Love & Hip Hop" is scripted? Sound off in the comments!

Most Americans Oppose Health Care Law But Like Provisions: Reuters Poll

(Corrects description of individual mandate in 5th paragraph)
* Big majorities favor healthcare provisions
* Supreme Court ruling is imminent
* Many opponents feel law does not go far enough
By Patricia Zengerle
WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) - Most Americans oppose President Barack Obama's healthcare reform even though they strongly support most of its provisions, Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Sunday, with the Supreme Court set to rule within days on whether the law should stand.
Fifty-six percent of people are against the healthcare overhaul and 44 percent favor it, according to the online poll conducted from Tuesday through Saturday.
The survey results suggest that Republicans are convincing voters to reject Obama's reform even when they like much of what is in it, such as allowing children to stay on their parents' insurance until age 26.
Strong majorities favor most of what is in the law.
A glaring exception to the popular provisions is the "individual mandate," which requires most U.S. residents to o wn health insurance.
Sixty-one percent of Americans are against the mandate, the issue at the center of the Republicans' contention that the law is unconstitutional, while 39 percent favor it.
"That's really the thing that has come to define the (reform) and is the thing that could potentially allow the Supreme Court to dismantle it if they decide it's not constitutional," Ipsos pollster Chris Jackson said.
In good news for Republicans at November's congressional elections, 45 percent said they were more likely to vote for a member of Congress who campaigned on a platform of repealing the law, versus 26 percent who said it would make them less likely, the survey showed.
The political stakes are sky-high on an issue that has galvanized conservative opposition to the Democratic president, and how the court's decision is framed politically could influence the outcome of the Nov. 6 general election.
Support for the provisions of the healthcare law was strong, with a full 82 percent of survey respondents, for example, favoring banning insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.
Sixty-one percent are in favor of allowing children to stay on their parents' insurance until age 26 and 72 percent back requiring companies with more than 50 employees to provide insurance for their employees.

Americans are strongly divided along partisan lines. Among Republicans, 86 percent oppose and 14 percent favor the law and Democrats back it by a 3-to-1 margin, 75 percent to 25 percent, the Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.
But in what could be a key indicator for the presidential contest, people who describe themselves as political independents oppose the law by 73 percent to 27 percent.
Opposition among independents has been growing. In a survey conducted in April, two weeks after the Supreme Court heard the case, 63 percent of them opposed the measure, and 37 percent favored it.
"Republicans have won the argument with independents and that's really been the reason that we see the majority of the public opposing it," Jackson said.
Republicans have dominated the political message on healthcare with calls to "repeal and replace" the law, condemned by conservatives as a government intrusion into private industry and the lives of private citizens. It passed in March 2010 with no Republican support in Congress.
Mitt Romney, the likely Republican presidential nominee, has promised to repeal the law if he defeats Obama, although he has not offered a plan of his own. Obama, who says he modeled the measure on a healthcare plan Romney passed as governor of Massachusetts, has defended it.
Obama critics - some from within his own party - have also questioned the president for focusing on healthcare reform early in his term instead of doing everything he could to fix the struggling U.S. economy.
Democrats back the measure as an effort to improve the lives of Americans and essential to control spiraling costs that are undermining the country's overall economic health. Healthcare expenditures in the United States neared $2.6 trillion in 2010, over 10 times the $256 billion spent in 1980, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
A good portion of the opposition to the healthcare law is because Americans want more reform, not less of it.
The poll found that a large number of Americans - including about one-third of Republicans and independents who disagree with the law - oppose it because it does not go far enough to fix healthcare.
Seventy-one percent of Republican opponents reject it overall, while 29 percent feel it does not go far enough, while independent opponents are divided 67 percent to 33 percent. Among Democratic opponents, 49 percent reject it overall, and 51 percent wish the measure went further.
"If you add the people that oppose it because they think it doesn't go far enough, you get a majority of Americans, so it doesn't mean that healthcare reform is dead," Jackson said.
There was party division in Americans' view of the individual mandate. Overall, 61 percent of Americans oppose requiring all U.S. residents to own health insurance. Among Republicans, the percentage rose to 81 percent, and it was 73 percent among independents. But a majority of Democrats - 59 percent - favor the individual mandate.
The survey of 1,043 Americans was conducted from June 19-23. The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. (Editing by Alistair Bell and Doina Chiacu)
