BSU alum Jarred Rome qualifies for 2012 London Games

Boise State hall of fame thrower Jarred Rome (2000) qualified for his second summer Olympics Thursday night in Eugene, finishing second in the discus qualifying.

Rome, the defending U.S. discus champion, earned his second career Olympic berth with a throw of 207-10.

Lance Brooks dominated the meet, but still had not thrown standard when he stepped into the circle for his final throw. Not throwing to an Olympic 'A' standard meant; even with a win at the trials, Brooks would not go to the Olympics unless he threw beyond 213-3.

With the final throw of the competition, Brooks tossed 213-9, beating the standard mark by six inches.

When Brooks qualified, he knocked Ian Waltz off the U.S. Olympic team. Waltz is the husband of former Idaho State track star Stacy Dragila.

Jason Young also qualified for the U.S. Olympic team in discus.
