Michigan has the second-most valuable football program in the country and Michigan State is No. 19, according to analysis by Forbes.
The No. 1 program is Texas with a value of $133 million and football revenue of $104 million for the 2011-12 fiscal year.
Michigan's value was estimated at $120 million, with football revenue of $85 million, and Michigan State was at $64 million in value and $50 million in football revenue.
Forbes based its analysis on a weighted scoring system to measure four key areas. They are, in order of importance:
* 1. The football program's value to its university
* 2. Value to the school's athletic department
* 3. Value to the school's conference
* 4. Value to surrounding community
