Arkansas Foundation Donates $50,000 to Oklahoma Tornado Recovery Efforts

LITTLE ROCK, AR (News Release) - Although tornadoes devastated areas in Oklahoma over two months ago, the affected communities are still working to recover from the disaster. The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation researched the intermediate and long term needs of these communities, and donated $50,000 to help with these recovery efforts. The charities supported include:
  • American Red Cross - $10,000
  • Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma - $10,000
  • United Way of Central Oklahoma - $10,000
  • Red Rover: Moore Animal Welfare - $7,500
  • Shelter Oklahoma Schools - $7,500
  • Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma - $5,000
The recovery process has now transitioned from addressing immediate needs to developing intermediate and long-term care plans for affected communities. The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation was able to give to those organizations that continue to support and help improve the lives of those affected.

For example, after receiving feedback from the City of Moore, Red Rover was chosen as a recipient in order to help relieve some of the financial burden the city is currently facing through their efforts to house displaced pets and reunite those pets with their owners.?

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is another example of an organization still working daily to help those in need. A woman, whose son lost his life when the tornado hit Plaza Towers Elementary, just came to their distribution center for the first time last week. Her home was destroyed, and she has been staying in a hotel since May 20th. It was the first time she could bring herself to venture out since the tornado.

"These stories are just a few examples of the challenges Oklahomans are still facing every day," said Kelly Caldwell, manager of communications and the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation. "The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation is thankful we can help provide support. We also extend our condolences to those who lost family members, and our thoughts are with all our neighbors as they recover from these tragic circumstances."
